Inspirational quote from Kid Rock

I never did find out what a bawitiba is. If I even spelled that right. It’s probably one of those words you can come up with when you’re high.

Whatever the case, the lyrics to the Kid Rock song from 2000 still ring with me:

Get in the pit and try to love someone”.

The world is the pit and our job is to love others. Not necessarily in a sexual context. I’m not sure if that was the artist’s intentions in writing that song. But Kid Rock’s follow up song was “Only God knows why.”

E’s Jam of the Day: Secret Agent Man

Today’s jam “Secret Agent Man” by Johnny Rivers back around 1966. I confess that I got into oldies music back in the early 90’s when my favorite Top 40 rock station changed their format.  Now I pretty much listen to music that spans five or six decades. It was only in recent years that I started paying more attention to the lyrics. It’s amazing the stuff that stands out years later and you wonder why you never caught it before.

Here is a sample of the lyrics:

“There’s a man who lives a life of danger

To everyone he meets he stares a stranger

With every move he makes, another chance he takes

Odds are he won’t live to see tomorrow

Secret agent man, secret agent man

They’ve given you a number and taken away you name

Beware of pretty faces that you find

A pretty face can hide an evil mind

Ah be careful what you say

You’ll give yourself away

Odds are you won’t live to see tomorrow”-‘Secret Agent Man’ by Johnny Rivers (circa 1966).

That pretty much sums up how most of us feel in this world. Like we are a number whose identity and name have been taken away; along with every person we meet being a stranger and a pretty face hiding a corrupt mind. You got to watch what you say and we aren’t guaranteed to see tomorrow.

I had to paraphrase that. I also have to confess that when I first heard the song, I thought the musician was saying “secret Asian man.” The song was actually the theme to some spy show in the 1960’s. I could be wrong but I believe it was The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
